A hoist is a tool designed to lift or lower a load. Hoists make transporting loads of all sizes simple and safe. They are often classified by load capacity and source of power. Hoists can be powered manually, electrically, or by air. They typically use either wire rope or chain to lift materials. Bishop Lifting Products, Inc.® offers hoists manufactured by both Coffing Hoists® and Chester Hoist®. These two companies are industry leaders in the manufacturing of premium quality hoists designed for jobs of all sizes. Their hoists are commonly used in the oil and gas, concert production and aerospace industries, to name a few.
Wire Rope or Chain Hoists
Hoists typically rely on either wire rope or chain to lift materials. Both of these lifting mediums are durable and efficient. Wire rope hoists are able to perform high speed lifting tasks easily. They can handle a wide range of weight capacities. Chain hoists are beneficial because of their long lasting, rugged design. They are good to use for long, heavy lifts. Bishop Lifting Products, Inc. ® partners with both Coffing Hoists® and Chester Hoist®, and they each offer a wide collection of wire rope and chain hoists.
Manual Hoists
Manual hoists are frequently applauded for their durability and portability. These hoists, ratchet and hand chains, can handle loads between ½ and 50 tons. High quality manual hoists are safe, reliable, and efficient. Coffing Hoists® and Chester Hoist® both offer a wide variety of manual hoists designed to provide a safe and durable lifting solution for your projects of every size.

Electric Hoists
Electric hoists provide a smooth, safe, and noise free lifting solution. Used in a wide array of industries, electric hoists come in either chain or wire rope. Since the 19th century, the wire rope hoist and chain hoists have been used with regularity. Their reliability has helped them both stand the test of time. Electric hoists can handle weight loads ranging from 250lbs to 25 tons. Coffing Hoists® and Chester Hoist® each offer a broad selection of electric hoists tailored to meet your desired weight load capacity.
Coffing® Electric Hoists- The electric line of Coffing Hoists® products is anchored by their Coffing Power Up® division. Air Powered Hoists
Smaller lifting projects can use air power. These air powered hoists can handle loads from 120lbs to 7 ½ tons. Air powered hoists offer numerous benefits. They are simple to use and require minimum maintenance. Using an air powered hoist is often less expensive than an electric hoist. Also, since they run on compressed air, they do not produce any sparks, thus making them explosion and flame proof. Both Coffing Hoists® and Chester Hoist® offer top of the line air powered hoists. Each company provides products that are safe, reliable, and efficient.
Coffing® Air Powered Hoists- For smaller loads, Coffing Air Power® can do the job. This line of air powered hoists includes air chains, air balancers, and air manipulators. They come in models that can handle anywhere from 120 lbs to 7 ½ tons. They are a cost reducing investment for companies that need to move smaller loads.
Chester® Air Powered Hoists- Many of the Chester Hoist® electric lifting devices can be equipped for air operation. Air powered hoists are less expensive to operate than electric hoists, thus saving your company money and increasing profits. The air powered lifting devices offered by Chester Hoist® are spark free and improve safety in your workplace.
Concert Rigging
The entertainment industry relies on hoists for all of their productions. Coffing Hoists® specializes in manufacturing lifting and rigging equipment for concert production. The Coffing UJC® is lightweight, portable, rugged and quiet. It can handle loads from ½ to 2 tons. Furthermore, it can lift loads up to 120 feet at speeds of 8 to 32 fpm. The Coffing Prostar® is designed for concerts held in smaller venues. It is compact and portable, but has the strength to handle small concert productions. With a built in overload protection, the Coffing Prostar® is safe and reliable.
Ratchet Lever- This manual hoist comes in load capacities ranging from ¾ to 6 tons. Their lifting range is anywhere from 5- 20 feet. Ratchet levers are beneficial because they are easy to use, lightweight, portable, and rugged. They can have a load limiter attached to prevent accidental overload. Ratchet levers are perfect for construction and commercial applications.
Hand Chain- Hand chain hoists rank high in durability and performance. This manual hoist comes in models that can handle from ½ to 50 tons. They are lightweight and portable. The simple construction of the hand chain means it is easy to maintain. It is an ideal solution for construction and contractor applications.
Electric Chain- The Coffing Hoists® EC line is trusted for its reliability and superior performance. Designed for heavy duty industrial service, these hoists come in models that can handle anywhere from ¼ to 5 tons with 10, 15, and 20 foot standard lifts. Many different suspension choices are available including rigid or swivel top hook, lug, plain, geared, and motorized trolley.
Electric Chain Turnover Hoists- These hoists are engineered specifically for machining, assembly, or repair operations which require complete rotation and precise positioning of large, bulky work pieces. They come in models that can lift anywhere from ¼ to 4 tons at a distance of 15 feet. Turnover hoists are a perfect solution for lifting oddly shaped loads.
Extended Duty Hoists- Extended Duty Hoists are designed for special tasks that require a hoist that exceeds the duty rating of basic EC models. Coffing Hoists® offers models ranging from ¼ to 2 tons with 10, 15, and 20 foot standard lifts. Extended Duty Hoists are long lasting and reliable.
Electric Wire Rope- Electric wire rope hoists are available in rated loads of ½ to 5 tons. They are ideal for lifting objects that need to be moved quickly. Electric wire rope hoists are smooth and practically noise free. They are extremely dependable and excellent for heavy duty lifting applications.
Air Chain Hoists- Coffing Hoists® offers a line of air hoists ranging from ¼ to 6 tons capacity. They feature continuous duty for precise, infinitely variable speed and accurate load spotting. The built in overload clutch guards the hoist, operator, and supporting structure from damages caused by accidental overload.
Air Balancer- The Coffing Air Balancer® makes the positioning of objects easy. The balancer is perfect for applications that require fast, precise lifting. The Lost Load Protector is an important safety feature. It protects the operator from any accidental load loss. Air Balancer models can lift up to 500 lbs. Industries that require a speedy, exact, cost efficient lifting solution use the Coffing Air Balancer®.
Air Manipulator- The Coffing Air Manipulator® is lightweight, portable, and simple to use. With quick response and smooth lifting, the Air Manipulator is a perfect workstation hoist. Weighing only 20 lbs, it can be installed anywhere quickly and easily. It is a cost effective lifting solution for your company.
Hook Type Hoists- Chester Hoist® offers 2 style of hook type hoists AM Army Type Hoists and Zephyr Hook Type Hoists. AM Army Type Hoists are lightweight, portable and durable. They are the ideal cost efficient solution for standard industrial duty applications. Models range from ¼ to 5 tons with standard lifts of 30 feet. Zephyr Hook Type Hoists are durable lifting devices that come in models ranging from ¼ through 25 tons lifting capacities. They exceed industry standards and are efficient in their performance.
Swivel Truck Low Headroom- These hoists are available in ¼ to 6 tons load capacities. As the name implies, they are ideal for situations where headroom is minimal. Swivel Truck Low Headroom hoists come in spark and corrosion resistant models.
Low Headroom Trolley Hoists- The Zephyr Low Headroom Trolley Hoist is employed frequently in spaces where minimum headroom prevents the use of any other hoist. Optional features include spark and corrosion resistance, load limiters, and chain containers. The low headroom feature means that this hoist is designed for only specific tasks.
Twin Hook Hoists- Twin hook hoists are designed to simultaneously operate two separate load chains, from a single hand chain. The twin hooks make it ideal for lifting heavy, bulky loads. This makes the lifting of nonsymmetrical loads easier and safer. The Zephyr Twin Hook Hoist typically comes with the hooks 36 inches apart, but more or less spacing can be accomplished.
Extended Handwheel- This hoist is designed with the hand chain operated at a distance from the lifting chain. Therefore, the operator can move large loads without coming into contact with the bulky load. Rated loads are typically ½ to 2 tons, but other load capacities are available. The hand chain is usually 36 inches away from the load chain, but more or less spacing is available.
Electric Chain- The Chester Electric Chain Hoist® is designed for situations where headroom is limited. They provide a smooth and quiet lifting solution. Electric chain models range from 1 to 25 tons capacities. This reliable hoist is suited for a variety of applications.
Wire Rope- These wire rope hoists are quiet, durable, and noise free. Chester Hoist® offers a wide selection of wire rope hoists with single, twin, or multiple hooks available. Low headroom models are also available for those operating in environments with low ceilings. This selection, coupled with rated capacities of 1 to 15 tons makes these hoists ideal for nearly every application.
Air Powered- Pneumatic, or air powered, hoists are easy to operate and cost efficient. Nearly all of the electric hoists offered by Chester Hoist® can be altered to be pneumatic. These hoists are beneficial as they can handle heavy duty lifting easily and are more affordable to operate than electric hoists.
