Morse-Starrett Wire Rope Cutters: The Finest Cutting Tools on the Market

Morse-Starrett Products Company is a traditional family owned business located in Meridian, Idaho. In 1928, the employees at Morse-Starrett began manufacturing what was then a new invention: the impact wire rope cutter. Today, the product line at the company has expanded to include the Pell Hydrashear® hydraulic wire rope cutters and the Steccone® window cleaning tools. There are four divisions within Morse-Starrett’s line of wire rope cutters: Impact, Manual, Power, and Re-bar, Chain and Strand Cutters.

Impact Cutters
Impact Cutters were actually the original cutting tools created by Morse-Starrett in 1928. These portable wire rope cutters are actuated by striking a hammer, easily operated and provide superior performance without jamming. Precision-engineered to deliver a clean cut, these tools do not affect the original roundness of the rope. The blades and dies of the Impact Cutters are made of the highest quality tool steel available and are heat-treated and ground to close tolerances. Impact Cutters come in three models:

Model 1: 3/4” capacity
Model 1A: 1 1/16” capacity
Model 2: 1 1/2" capacity

Impact Cutters Manual Cutters
These self-contained, hydraulic wire rope cutters are engineered with precision, giving a clean cut with minimal effort. In order to operate manual cutters, the user simply pumps the handle; no outside power necessary. The cutters are easily transported and are the preferred models of contractors, rigging lofts and elevator repairers. Wire rope manufacturers recommend these manual cutters throughout the world. The following three models are operable underwater, with special modifications:

Model W-075: 3/4" capacity
Model P-1125: 1 1/8” capacity
Model C-1750: 1 3/4” capacity

Power Cutters
Morse-Starrett power cutters can be activated using an electric, gas, hand, battery or hydraulic pump. The pump just needs to be able to develop 10,000 p.s.i. and have free flow return through its pressure line. The user must hose-connect the pump to the Hydrashear body. Power cutters are available in the following sizes and cutting capacities:

Model POC 2500: 2 1/2" capacity
Model POC 1750: 1 3/4" capacity
Model POC 1125: 1 1/8” capacity
Model POC 3500: 3 1/2” capacity; double-acting cylinder in both directions provides faster and more positive returns

Rebar, Chain, Strand, and Bolt Cutters Re-Bar, Chain, Strand and Bolt Cutters (Model S)
These versatile cutting tools are convenient to use at any angle and weight less than 12 lbs. They can be activated using electric, gas, hand, battery or hydraulic pumps, as long as the pump is capable of a 10,000 p.s.i. and has a free flow return via the pressure line. Users can adjust the front blade to the necessary cutting clearance once it is sharpened; the back blade is fixed. Customers need to specify if the cutter will be used for cutting round chain, as the cutting head must be modified for this purpose. The Model S is designed to cut the following materials:

1/2" Prestressed concrete strands
1/2" Mild steel round chains
5/8” Reinforced bar
5/8” Bolts
